Plain-English Explanation
Part 117 is the modern fatigue rule for Part 121 (airline) operations, replacing the old Part 121 Subpart Q. It limits how much you can fly based on when your duty period starts (early morning flights have tighter limits because fatigue is worse) and how many segments you fly. The hard caps are 100 flight hours per 28 days and 1,000 per year. These science-based limits were a major safety improvement, directly addressing fatigue-related accidents like Colgan Air 3407.
