Key Regulations
Aeronautical Knowledge Recurrency
A remote pilot must complete one of the following every 24 calendar months: pass a recurrent knowledge test at a testing center, or complete an FAA-approved online recurrent training course.
Operation Over Human Beings
Updated rules allow operations over people in Categories 1-4 without a waiver, provided the sUAS meets specific requirements for each category.
Remote Identification of UAS
All drones over 0.55 lbs operating in US airspace must broadcast Remote ID information. Standard Remote ID is built into the drone; a broadcast module is an alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I complete recurrent training online for free?
Yes. Since 2021, the FAA allows completion of a free online recurrent training course through FAASafety.gov as an alternative to taking the knowledge test at a testing center.
What happens if I let my Part 107 expire?
Your certificate does not expire, but your privilege to act as PIC does. You simply need to complete recurrent training or testing to regain your privileges — no need to retake the initial exam.
