14 CFR 141.55 — Training Course: Contents
Specifies requirements for FAA-approved training courses at Part 141 pilot schools, including curriculum, instructor qualifications, and minimum hours.
Regulation Text
Each course of training provided by a pilot school must include: a description of each room, training area, or facility used; a description of equipment and materials; detailed lesson plans and curriculum; completion standards for each phase of training; and the minimum ground and flight training hours.
Note: This is an excerpt. Refer to the full regulation in eCFR for the complete text.
Plain-English Explanation
Part 141 flight schools operate under FAA-approved training courses with structured curricula, standardized lesson plans, and completion standards. The advantage: reduced flight time requirements (35 hours for PPL vs 40 for Part 61, 190 hours for CPL vs 250). The tradeoff: less flexibility in training schedule and progression. Part 141 schools must pass FAA inspections and maintain high pass rates. Many university aviation programs and larger schools operate under Part 141.
