Updated 2026-06·IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programme (CAE / Skyborne / Chimes — ab-initio, self-sponsored)Direct Entry First Officer (CPL + A320 type rating)

Routes and eligibility at a glance

IndiGo runs a self-sponsored Cadet Pilot Programme designed with CAE that takes you from zero hours to an A320 Junior First Officer, plus Direct Entry for licensed pilots.

  • The cadet route trains you to a CPL and an Airbus A320 type rating, then a junior First Officer seat on the A320 — the core flying training runs about 16–19 months.
  • Baseline eligibility: 10+2 with Physics and Maths (around 60% in PCM, with a per-subject floor of 51% / GP6 / C1 in Physics, Maths and English) and age roughly 18–30.candidate-reported
  • You must clear a DGCA Class-1 medical and submit a BMI certificate (18–25) from a NABL-accredited lab — sort the medical before you invest in the selection.candidate-reported

The selection stages

The funnel is multi-stage and academic up front, then behavioural — strong fundamentals and aptitude practice matter most.

  • Online screening verifies documents and eGCA records, followed by a written exam covering Air Navigation, Meteorology, Regulations and Technical (General/Specific).candidate-reported
  • An ADAPT-style computer aptitude test assesses hand-eye coordination, cognitive load management and spatial awareness.candidate-reported
  • A group task assesses collaboration and problem-solving, then a personal interview with an IndiGo panel covers motivation, aptitude and fit.candidate-reported
  • Practise the aptitude families cold and revise core ground-school subjects — the early academic cut removes a lot of candidates.

Cost — go in with the real number

  • Total cost is reported around ₹97 lakh: roughly ₹58 lakh CPL course (payable in ~5 installments), ~₹8 lakh food/accommodation over training, and the A320 type rating (~US$31,500 plus taxes, ~₹31 lakh).candidate-reported
  • It is self-sponsored — model the financing and the junior-FO repayment timeline before committing.
