GCAA pilot license — frequently asked questions
Is the UAE a good country to train as a pilot?
Yes — Emirates Flight Training Academy (Dubai) and Etihad Aviation Training (Al Ain) are world-class. Many cadets are guaranteed jobs at Emirates / Etihad post-graduation.
How much does PPL cost in the UAE?
AED 90,000–150,000 (USD $24,000–$40,000). Higher than the US but with strong cadet program subsidies for UAE nationals.

Yes — Dubai requires DCAA registration AND a separate flight permit per operation. Abu Dhabi uses GCAA + ADAA. No-fly zones are extensive around airports and royal residences.
Can expats fly drones in the UAE?
Yes, after obtaining a GCAA-issued RPL and DCAA registration. Tourists cannot bring drones in without prior approval at customs.
