FAQ

What is an airline cadet program?â–¾

A cadet program is an airline-structured pathway from zero hours (or minimal hours) to flying for that specific airline. Programs typically include selection assessment, ground school, flight training (PPL → CPL → IR → ME → ATPL), type rating on the airline's fleet, and a guaranteed line job upon completion. The trade-off: you're committed to that airline for years (typically 3-7 year bond).

What's the difference between sponsored and self-funded cadet programs?â–¾

Sponsored programs (Qatar Airways, Etihad, AirAsia, KLM, Lufthansa traditional) pay for selected candidates' training in full or near-full. Selection is brutal (often <2% of applicants accepted) and you sign a 5-7 year bond. Self-funded programs (Ryanair Mentored, easyJet MPL, United Aviate, Delta Propel) require you to pay $70k-$130k+ for training, but selection is more achievable and the airline guarantees an interview or job.

How much does a cadet program cost?â–¾

Sponsored programs: $0 in cash for selected candidates. Self-funded programs vary wildly: AirAsia ~$80k, Wizz Air ~€60k, easyJet MPL ~€118k, United Aviate Academy $71k, Republic LIFT Academy $89k, JetBlue Gateway Select $125k. Average self-funded: $80-$130k total. Compare to non-cadet path: ~$70-$100k for PPL → CPL → CFI hour-building → regional FO.

Which cadet program is easiest to get into?â–¾

Self-funded programs (LIFT, United Aviate, Wizz Air, Ryanair Mentored) have lower selection bars — they want anyone who can pay and pass medicals. Sponsored programs (Qatar, Etihad, Singapore Airlines) accept <2% of applicants. The 'easiest sponsored' tier: Wizz Air's self-funded model with a guaranteed line offer, AirAsia's tiered cadet with merit-based partial sponsorship.

What entry requirements do cadet programs have?â–¾

Universal requirements: high school diploma (some require college), Class 1 medical, English ICAO Level 4+, age 18-35 typically, basic math + physics aptitude tests, no criminal record. Vary-by-airline: some require pre-existing PPL (Ryanair), some require degree (Delta Propel), some require specific nationality (US for United Aviate). Always check the airline's career page directly.

Should I do a cadet program or build hours the traditional way?â–¾

Cadet wins if: you have $70-130k saved, you're <30, you commit to a specific airline, you want a structured 3-5 year path. Traditional (PPL → CFI → regional → major) wins if: you want flexibility to switch carriers, you can take 5-8 years, you want to keep CFI as fallback income, you live in the US where the 1500-hour ATP rule + retirements + pilot shortage = fast major airline advancement without cadet investment.

How does Rotate Pilot help cadet candidates?â–¾

Cadet assessment testing has 4 typical components: (1) Math + physics aptitude, (2) ICAO English fluency, (3) aviation theory basics (PPL-level), (4) interview + sim screen. Rotate's $39 All-5 Bundle covers exam prep for PPL theory (3,500 questions), Part 107 (drone — bonus knowledge), Instrument Rating (sim assessment prep), Commercial/ATP (career path knowledge), and DGAC Perú TAE 2.0 ICAO English (for the English fluency stage). 60 days of access usually fits the cadet selection window.

Do US airlines have sponsored cadet programs like European/Asian airlines?â–¾

Mostly no. United Aviate Academy and Delta Propel are 'pathway' programs but you pay for the training (United: $71k). True full-sponsorship is dominated by Middle East (Qatar, Etihad, Emirates), Asia (Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, AirAsia), and a few EU carriers (KLM, AF Aspirations). US airlines don't sponsor because the US has a robust regional → mainline pipeline that doesn't need cadet investment.
