Gateway Select at a glance

Gateway Select is JetBlue's ab-initio talent pathway: you learn with JetBlue from the start and, on completing a rigorous programme and meeting all hiring requirements, become a JetBlue new-hire pilot.

  • It is built for near-zero-experience candidates: you must not exceed a Private Pilot rating when you begin.
  • The programme takes about 3.5 years; total cost is approximately US$122,000, payable while you are actively training, with lender/loan options provided to those accepted.
  • On meeting all ATP and JetBlue First-Officer hiring requirements, graduates become new-hire pilots — subject to a final background check, drug test, PRIA review and the Pilot Hiring Committee's review.

Selection and assessments

JetBlue screens against ICAO pilot competencies and its own criteria — so prepare the competencies, not trivia.

  • Candidates go through a series of assessments based on ICAO pilot competencies plus JetBlue's selection criteria.
  • Those who pass are invited to meet the JetBlue team for a series of interviews, then further testing.
  • Prepare structured competency answers (communication, leadership/teamwork, problem-solving, situational awareness, workload management) with real examples.

Requirements before you apply

  • Be 20 years old at the start (you must be 23 to obtain the ATP that JetBlue requires).
  • Upload a First-Class Medical certificate at application, and a U.S. passport or U.S. permanent-residence card (with foreign passport + visas) allowing unrestricted travel to all destinations.
