(Refer to figure 2.) If an airplane weighs 2,300 pounds, what approximate weight would the airplane structure be required to support during a 60° banked turn while maintaining altitude?

How to read it: Enter the bank angle on the bottom axis, go up to the red curve and read the load factor on the left. The table on the left gives the exact values (60° = 2.0 G).
A

2,300 pounds.

B

3,400 pounds.

C

4,600 pounds.✓ Correct Answer

Explanation

Figure 2 shows a load factor of 2.000 at a 60-degree bank in level flight. The structure must support the weight times the load factor: 2,300 x 2.0 = 4,600 pounds. 2,300 pounds would be the 1-G load of straight-and-level flight, and 3,400 pounds would correspond to about 1.5 G, roughly a 48-degree bank.
