An engine start where the engine lights off but does not accelerate to idle RPM. The N2 stabilizes at a low value with rising EGT. A hung start requires the start to be aborted to prevent engine damage.

Why Hung Start Matters for Pilots

Understanding Hung Start is important for pilot certification exams and safe flight operations. This concept appears on FAA and EASA knowledge tests, and examiners may ask about it during oral checkrides. A thorough understanding of Hung Start helps you make better decisions in the cockpit.
