Mock oral checkride

The examiner asks. You answer. Then you find out what he was listening for.

Twelve questions from a real checkride, one at a time. You type your answer the way you would say it, and each one comes back marked against the points a DPE expects to hear — with the follow-up question he would have asked next.

A real question, and a real answer being marked

The examiner asks

What documents must you have on board the aircraft and on your person to legally fly today?

You typed

The aircraft needs AROW: airworthiness certificate, registration, operating limitations and weight and balance. I need my pilot certificate and medical.

He would probe this

You left out government-issued photo ID, which must be carried along with your pilot certificate and medical.

He did not hear: Mentions photo ID

“Besides your certificate and medical, what else do you need to have on your person?”

And at the end, the write-up

A DPE does not fail questions — he fails areas of operation, and under 14 CFR 61.43 a retest covers only the areas found deficient. So the twelve answers come back grouped the way FAA-S-ACS-6 groups them, with the study order underneath. That is the page you hand your instructor. Below is the shape of it, from an example sitting:

I.BAirworthiness Requirements

Deficient

Study: AROW, the AV1ATE inspection intervals, MEL vs 91.213, and who may return an aircraft to service.

I.APilot Qualifications

Needs work

Study: 61.23 medical, 61.56 flight review, 61.57 currency, and the documents you personally must carry.

I.ENational Airspace System

Needs work

Study: Class A-G entry and equipment requirements, special use airspace, TFRs.

I.FPerformance and Limitations

Satisfactory

Prints to one page. The competency write-up is normally the part you pay a second fee for.

Marked against the ACS, not vibes

Every question carries the points a DPE expects to hear. That list is what your answer is compared to — nothing else.

It does not hand you the answer first

The model answer appears after you commit to yours. That is the part a study guide cannot do.

Terse is fine

Abbreviations and memory aids are how this material is actually recalled. You are marked on substance, not polish.
