Part 107 test prep for Kentucky Flight and Aeronautics classes

By Renzo Madueño, former Airbus A320 First Officer (Avianca), FAA commercial pilot ·
Kentucky's 2026-2027 valid industry certification list marks the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107) as high demand in the Flight and Aeronautics pathway, which counts 1.25 instead of 1.00 under Postsecondary Readiness. Students only earn it by passing the $175 PSI knowledge test. Seats give each student the course, the practice bank and the mock exams, and give you one report of who is ready to test. Questions CTE teachers ask

Is Part 107 a valid industry certification in Kentucky CTE?

Yes. The Kentucky Department of Education's Valid Industry Certifications 2026-2027 list (version 1.2, October 28, 2026) includes "FAA - Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)" in the Transportation / Flight and Aviation Flight and Aeronautics pathway (49.0102.00), marked high demand. It is also listed in five Engineering pathways: Aerospace Engineering 14.0201.01, Automation Engineering 15.0613.00, Civil Engineering 14.0801.00, Engineering Design 15.1302.00, Mechanical Engineering 14.3501.00.

What does the high-demand mark change?

The KDE list says certifications identified as high demand by the Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board (KWIB) receive 1.25 in the state accountability model under Postsecondary Readiness, versus 1.00 for all other certifications. Your district assessment coordinator confirms how each student is counted.

Which exams does the Flight and Aeronautics pathway accept?

The pathway requires one exam from: FAA - Private Pilot Written Exam; FAA - Recreational Pilot Written Exam (high demand); FAA - Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107) (high demand). Version 1.2 of the list also names the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam among its new high-demand certificates. Rotate Pilot prepares students for the Part 107 and Private Pilot knowledge tests; the A&P General written, listed in the separate Aircraft Maintenance Technician pathway (47.0607.00), has its own practice test.

Is Rotate Pilot approved by Kentucky or the FAA?

No. Rotate Pilot is an independent test-prep course, not affiliated with the Kentucky Department of Education, KWIB, the FAA or PSI. The credential is the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate, issued by the FAA after the student passes the knowledge test at a PSI center. We prepare students for that test.

How old do students need to be?

Students can take the knowledge test from age 14, and the FAA issues the Remote Pilot Certificate from age 16 (14 CFR 107.61). Unused seats stay available for 12 months.

Can the district pay with a purchase order?

Yes. Send the PO from the form on this page or to hello@rotatepilot.com and we return an invoice with our W-9 and vendor details. Seats are activated on receipt of a signed PO. Card or ACH also work.

Does this replace our aviation course?

No. It is the knowledge-test layer of your program: 32 lessons across the five ACS areas, 470+ practice questions with explanations and timed 60-question mock exams. Flight skills, simulators and your program of study stay with you.

We already use iCEV, USI or Drone Legends. Is this still useful?

Yes, as the last step before students pay the $175 PSI fee. Keep your curriculum and use the seats for the timed mock exams (60 scored questions plus 5 unscored, like the real test) and the per-student report of who is ready to book. 5 seats are $249.

What if a student fails the FAA test?

Each seat carries the same guarantee as the individual Pass: finish the course and score 85% or higher on 3 full-length simulations in the 30 days before the test. If that student still fails the first attempt, we refund the seat and add $175 toward the retest.
