How the plan is built
About 60% of your sessions are learning, split across the five ACS areas in proportion to their share of the test; about 25% is mixed practice on your weakest areas; the last 15% (never fewer than one session) is full-length timed mocks, with the final mock the day before you test. The same split drives the study-plan tool in Rotate's Claude connector. Sessions are at least 30 minutes and never more than one a day; plans longer than 120 days cover the last 120.
| Area (ACS FAA-S-ACS-10B) | Share | Questions of 60 |
|---|---|---|
| UA.I Regulations | 48% | ~29 |
| UA.II Airspace Classification and Operating Requirements | 20% | ~12 |
| UA.III Weather | 5% | ~3 |
| UA.IV Loading and Performance | 2% | ~1 |
| UA.V Operations | 25% | ~15 |

If you only have 7 days
The split below follows the official allocation (Regulations 48%, Operations 25%, Airspace 20%, Weather 5%, Loading and Performance 2%) and assumes about two hours a day. With less time per day, use the calculator above for a 14-day plan.
| Day | Area | What to do | Practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Regulations (48%) | Operating limits (400 ft AGL, 87 kt, 3 SM visibility), certificate rules, VLOS, night and over-people operations. | Cheat sheet + regulations practice |
| 2 | Regulations (48%) | Accident reporting, registration, Remote ID, waivers, preflight; re-read every number you missed on day 1. | Regulations practice |
| 3 | Airspace (20%) | Classes B, C, D, E and G, LAANC authorization, special-use airspace, TFRs and NOTAMs on the sectional chart. | Chart image questions |
| 4 | Operations (25%) | Radio communications, airport operations, crew resource management, physiology (IMSAFE), emergencies, maintenance. | Operations practice |
| 5 | Weather (5%) + Loading (2%) | METAR and TAF, density altitude, weight and balance. Few questions: do not over-study. | Decode a real METAR + 10 questions |
| 6 | Mixed review | 20 mixed questions; write down every area under 80% and re-read its explanations. | Practice your two weakest areas |
| 7 | Mock exam | 60 questions in 120 minutes; review every miss. Sleep, documents for PSI, nothing new. | Timed 60-question mock |
If the day-7 mock is under 70%, you need more days, not more luck: the calculator builds a 14- or 28-day plan for that.
Want the plan filled in for you?
Part 107 Pass · $69 once
32 written lessons (10-20 min each, read on your phone), a quick check after every lesson and 470+ practice questions with explanations. No videos. The 32 lessons follow the same ACS areas as this plan, so each learning day has its lesson, each practice day its question set from a bank of 470+ with explanations, and mock days use timed 60-question exams weighted like the FAA test. Lifetime access.
Pass Guarantee: finish the course and score 85%+ on 3 full simulations in the 30 days before your test. Still fail on your first try? We refund the $69 and add $175 for the retest (full conditions).
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to study for the Part 107 test?
There is no official FAA minimum. At the pace this calculator uses, 15 to 25 hours over 2 to 4 weeks covers every ACS topic at least once plus the mock exams; a pilot who already knows airspace and weather needs less. The calculator turns your real hours into a schedule and warns you when the total is too thin for the topics the test covers.
Why does the plan spend so much time on regulations?
Because the test does. Since September 29, 2025 the PSI bulletin for the UAG test allocates 48% of the questions to Regulations (about 29 of 60), 25% to Operations and 20% to Airspace. Weather is 5% and Loading and Performance 2%. Older guides still quote the ACS-10B Appendix 1 split (Operations 35-45%, Regulations 15-25%); the plan uses the current one.
What if I only have a few days?
Under five days the plan drops most of the learning phase and goes to timed practice on Regulations and Operations, with the full 60-question mock on the last day. If you score under 70% on that mock, consider rescheduling with PSI: failing costs the $175 fee again and a 14-day wait (14 CFR 107.71).
Why does every plan end with a mock exam?
The real test is 60 scored questions in 120 minutes, 70% to pass (FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix). Knowing the material and pacing yourself through a 2-hour sitting are different skills; the last sessions rehearse the second one. The free full-length test on this site has the same length and timing.
Does the plan follow the FAA's own structure?
Yes. Topics follow the Remote Pilot ACS (FAA-S-ACS-10B) areas I to V and each session cites its source: the 14 CFR rule, the ACS code or the FAA handbook. Rotate Pilot is independent and not affiliated with the FAA or PSI.
Written by Renzo Madueño, former Airbus A320 First Officer (Avianca), FAA commercial pilot. Last reviewed . Rotate Pilot is independent and not affiliated with the FAA or PSI. More: the Part 107 hub and the test format FAQ.
