Questions CTE teachers ask
Is Part 107 on Tennessee's credential list?
Yes. The Tennessee Department of Education's 2026-27 student industry credentials of value list includes "FAA Part 107" as a certification offered in K-12 and at TCATs, Tier 3 - Preferred, listed since fall 2019 with no sunset date. A second row, "FAA Part 107/108 Drone/UAS", was added in fall 2025 at the same tier.
What does Tier 3 mean?
The list sorts credentials into three tiers: Tier 1 - Recognized, Tier 2 - Valued and Tier 3 - Preferred. Part 107 is in the top one. How each tier counts toward Ready Graduate or funding is set in the department's own accountability and funding rules; your CTE director has the current version.
Is Rotate Pilot approved by Tennessee or the FAA?
No. Rotate Pilot is an independent test-prep course, not affiliated with the Tennessee Department of Education, the FAA or PSI. The credential is the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate, issued by the FAA after the student passes the knowledge test at a PSI center. We prepare students for that test.
How old do students need to be?
Students can take the knowledge test from age 14, and the FAA issues the Remote Pilot Certificate from age 16 (14 CFR 107.61). Unused seats stay available for 12 months.
Can the district pay with a purchase order?
Yes. Send the PO from the form on this page or to hello@rotatepilot.com and we return an invoice with our W-9 and vendor details. Seats are activated on receipt of a signed PO. Card or ACH also work.
Does this replace our drone course?
No. It is the knowledge-test layer of your program: 32 lessons across the five ACS areas, 470+ practice questions with explanations and timed 60-question mock exams. Flight skills, simulators and your program of study stay with you.
What if a student fails the FAA test?
Each seat carries the same guarantee as the individual Pass: finish the course and score 85% or higher on 3 full-length simulations in the 30 days before the test. If that student still fails the first attempt, we refund the seat and add $175 toward the retest.
