If your transponder is inoperative, what are the requirements for flying in Class D airspace?
A
The entry into Class D is prohibited.
B
Continue the flight as planned.✓ Correct Answer
C
Pilot must immediately request priority handling to proceed to destination.
Explanation
14 CFR 91.215(b) requires an operating Mode C transponder in Class A, B and C airspace, within the 30-NM Mode C veil of listed Class B airports, above the ceiling of Class B and C areas, and above 10,000 feet MSL (excluding at or below 2,500 AGL). Class D airspace is not on that list, so with an inoperative transponder the flight into Class D may continue as planned. Entry is not prohibited and there is no requirement to request priority handling.
