Meteorology

Frontal System

Definition

The boundary between two different air masses. Cold fronts bring rapid weather changes with thunderstorms, warm fronts bring gradual cloud lowering and steady precipitation, and occluded fronts combine both characteristics.

Why Frontal System Matters for Pilots

Weather concepts like Frontal System appear frequently on both FAA and EASA knowledge exams. More importantly, understanding Frontal System helps pilots make sound go/no-go decisions and avoid hazardous conditions in flight. Weather-related accidents remain a leading cause of general aviation incidents.
