Microburst

Definition

A small-scale intense downdraft that produces damaging divergent winds at the surface. Microbursts can cause an aircraft to first gain then rapidly lose airspeed and altitude during approach, with fatal consequences.

Why Microburst Matters for Pilots

Weather concepts like Microburst appear frequently on both FAA and EASA knowledge exams. More importantly, understanding Microburst helps pilots make sound go/no-go decisions and avoid hazardous conditions in flight. Weather-related accidents remain a leading cause of general aviation incidents.
