Right-of-Way Rules

Definition

Rules determining which aircraft has priority in various situations. Aircraft in distress have first priority. Otherwise: balloons over all, gliders over airplanes, airplanes over airships. Head-on: both turn right.

Why Right-of-Way Rules Matters for Pilots

Regulatory knowledge is heavily tested on FAA and EASA written exams. Understanding Right-of-Way Rules helps you stay compliant with aviation rules and avoid certificate actions. Examiners frequently ask about regulations during oral checkrides, so knowing Right-of-Way Rules inside and out is essential.

Exam Tip

This concept is commonly tested in regulations-related questions on FAA and EASA exams. Make sure you can explain Right-of-Way Rules in your own words for the oral exam. Practice applying this concept to real-world scenarios, not just memorizing the definition.
