Part 107 Cheat Sheet: every number the test asks
The test in one line
60 questions (plus 5 unscored), 3 answer choices each, 2 hours, 70% to pass (42 of 60), $175 at a PSI testing center. Fail and you wait 14 days to retest (§107.71). Minimum age 14 to sit the test, 16 to hold the certificate (§107.61). Everything else about the test format: how long the Part 107 test is and how many questions it has.
| Regulations | 48% | ~29 q |
|---|---|---|
| Airspace Classification and Operating Requirements | 20% | ~12 q |
| Weather | 5% | ~3 q |
| Loading and Performance | 2% | ~1 q |
| Operations | 25% | ~15 q |
Many guides still quote the older split (Operations 35-45%, Regulations 15-25%). Regulations is now almost half the test.
The numbers to memorize
| Number | What it is | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| 400 ft AGL | Maximum altitude. Higher only within 400 ft of a structure, and no more than 400 ft above its top.§107.51 | |
| 87 knots (100 mph) | Maximum groundspeed.§107.51 | |
| 3 statute miles | Minimum flight visibility from the control station.§107.51 | |
| 500 ft / 2,000 ft | Cloud clearance: 500 ft below, 2,000 ft horizontally.§107.51 | |
| Under 55 lb | Total weight at takeoff, payload included, for a small UAS.§107.3 | |
| 16 years | Minimum age for the Remote Pilot Certificate.§107.61 | |
| 24 calendar months | Recurrent training to keep flying under Part 107.§107.65 | |
| 10 days · $500 | Report an accident to the FAA within 10 days if it causes serious injury, loss of consciousness, or more than $500 of damage to property other than the drone.§107.9 | |
| 3 statute miles | Anti-collision lights must be visible this far for night and civil-twilight flights.§107.29 | |
| B, C, D, surface E | Controlled airspace: needs authorization (LAANC or DroneZone). Class G does not.§107.41 | |
| 8 hours · 0.04 | No flying within 8 hours of a drink or at 0.04% blood alcohol or more.§91.17 via §107.27 | |
| 60 questions · 2 h · 70% | The knowledge test. After a fail, 14 days before a retake.§107.71 |
Airspace at a glance
Typical dimensions (AIM chapter 3); the sectional shows the exact numbers for each airport. Controlled airspace needs authorization before you fly (§107.41).
- Class BAuthorization required
Surface to 10,000 ft MSL around the busiest airports; layered like an upside-down wedding cake.
- Class CAuthorization required
Surface to 4,000 ft above the airport within 5 NM; shelf from 1,200 to 4,000 ft out to 10 NM.
- Class DAuthorization required
Surface to 2,500 ft above the airport, towered field (dashed blue on the sectional).
- Class E (surface)Authorization required
Starts at the surface around some non-towered airports (dashed magenta).
- Class E (not surface)No authorization below the floor
Floor at 700 ft AGL (magenta vignette) or 1,200 ft AGL elsewhere.
- Class GNo authorization
Uncontrolled, from the surface up to the overlying Class E.
Operating rules in one line each
- Keep the drone in visual line of sight (you or a visual observer).§107.31
- One drone at a time per remote pilot.§107.35
- Yield right of way to all crewed aircraft.§107.37
- No flying from a moving vehicle, except over a sparsely populated area.§107.25
- Carry your certificate and ID and show them to the FAA on request.§107.7
- Preflight check of the aircraft, the area and the weather before every flight.§107.49
- Night flight needs current training and anti-collision lighting.§107.29
- Broadcast Remote ID (built-in or a module) unless flying at a FAA-recognized area.14 CFR Part 89

Part 107 flashcards: quiz yourself
Read the question, say the number out loud, then tap the card. When you get all 14 right twice in a row, you have the numbers.
Know the numbers? Test them.
The numbers are the easy part; the test mixes them into airspace, weather and decision-making questions. Try the free practice test first. When you want the whole bank, the Part 107 Pass has 470+ questions with explanations, 32 lessons and full 60-question timed practice exams.
